As of right now, I work at Lovely Lane daycare before and after school education program. I have worked there for two and a half years and I have enjoyed (almost) every day. Working here has proved that I really do want to work with kids and I would enjoy doing it for the rest of my life. I love going to work and helping the kids do their homework, playing endless games, and just talking to elementary kids.
In order to become an elementary teacher, I plan on attending Kirkwood next year for two years, then transferring into one of the bigger schools to get my degree. For a while, I thought about joining a division of AmeriCorps called City Year. In City Year, I would go to big cities and mentor and tutor kids in different schools. I would also help the schools become a better place and help make the community better for the kids. I have chosen not to do this because I am not sure I can be far away from my family and friends and do this big of thing right out of high school.
Over spring break, I watched a video on television about teaching. Truthfully, I stopped on this channel because I saw some kids I knew from my daycare on. I found the video on Pierce's website and watched the full video. It is very interesting because it tells how to teach fourth graders and ways to teach to help them learn. The district does this to most of the schools in the district and I plan on trying to find video's from other elementary schools and seeing if they are different
